S.T. ENDURANCE 1/24 SCALE Length 41" Beam 9" In 1996 at Tone Valley model boat club, Taunton, Somerset, a model boat event was held to try to set new world records for distance travelled by a model boat. One of the classes was for steam powered vessels. Deans Marine and Cheddar Models agreed to give their support to an attempt at the record by a steam powered craft. The boat designed for this was the S.T. Endurance. She is based on one of the Blue Circle cement tugs that plied the Thames in the 1960s, hence she has immense power and speed to defeat the strong tides in the river. The model was powered by a Cheddar PUFFIN engine with a CMB6 boiler.
The tug travelled for 24 hours and set a new world record of 44.1 miles. The model is still in steam and often sails at regattas under the helm of its pilot Mr. M. J. Porter. The hull is plated and detailed with bulwarks moulded as part of the hull. To complete the model a glass fibre moulded superstructure in one piece is included as part of the set A set of detailed B & W pictures is available along with a giude book on the construction of the model
